As we have seen many important matches for Sporting KC this season, there is no denying that this match is without a doubt the most important one for Sporting KC so far in their season. Facing off against their next door neighbor st louis city for the second round of the best of three in the MLS cup playoffs. Sporting already showing dominance against st louis in their own turf, goes to show the confidence skc already had stepping into their own turf to face up against st louis again for round two.
First half was underway and within the 22nd minute a yellow card was already in place for st louis city for a foul against Sporting KC midfielder Gadi Kinda. Right away it was obvious that this was a personal battle, for who would represent the midwest in the MLS cup semi finals. In the 45th minute Sporting KC’s Daniel Salloi made a clever pass to Alan pulido who passed the ball along to Logan Ndenbe who shot a straight shot hitting directly into the back of the net, opening the score for the match. This was not the first time Logan Ndenbe had become the spotlight of the match in the MLS playoffs, this was only his second time he had scored against st louis in the best of three.
Second half was underway with a one point lead for Sporting KC. In the 53rd minute St Louis Eduard Lowen made a close shot from outside the penalty box that ended up bouncing off the post. In the 72nd minute Sporting KC’s Gadi Kinda made a quick pass to Daniel Salloi inside the penalty box, Salloi found the back of the net and scored goal number 2 for Sporting KC. In the 85th minute St louis midfielder Celio Pompeu scored the first goal for st louis with only 20 minutes left in the match. Leaving a possibility for a draw before the final whistle. However Sporting KC’s defense was able to hold back st louis from scoring another goal before the final whistle. Allowing Sporting KC to advance to the semi finals of the MLS cup.
